ARTEFACTS TAKUMI is a body of work we produced in close collaboration with individual craftsman from Japan. This body of work is individually crafted (i.e. no two pieces are similar) and produced in a limited batch of between 10 to 50 pieces.
The term “Takumi” (匠), refers to an “artisan" or “craftsman” in Japanese. As social norms and lifestyles evolve, we hope to provide a possible dialogue on the future of traditional crafts and the existential role of the craftsmen through a collection of everyday artefacts. Mingei (民芸) or Kogei (工芸)? Perhaps it is up to the consumer who decides.
