The Merlion, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, was designed in 1964 for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). The statue of the imaginary creature, located at One Fullerton, stands at 8.6 metres and weighs 70 tonnes, and was sculpted by local artist Lim Nang Seng. It remains an enduring attraction and icon of Singapore, with its long mane, fierce water-spouting visage and array of carefully-sculpted scales, pictured on this plate.

Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
