The Merlion, a mythical creature has its origin when a Palembang Prince sighted a beast that looked like a lion and a fish at sea. Its name is a combination of “mer” meaning the sea and “lion”. The creature is also very symbolic and true to its form, its fish tail representing Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village, has since been transformed into a vibrant city that is respectable like a lion.
There is simply nothing that personifies Singapore more than The Merlion.
Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
