Magic, The Legendary Language-Changing Cup is inspired by the drinking cup used by our Prime Minister during his addresses to Singaporeans on several occasions during the Covid19 pandemic. He would take a sip before giving the next address in a different language. In the midst of uncertain times, a little blue cup arise and gave the nation a gentle dose of humour.
Notwithstanding its magical powers, the porcelain cup is designed with the motif of the Tembusu flower and leaves. Named as one of Singapore's heritage tree, the Tembusu is known for its resilience, dynamism, purpose, and usefulness - much like the little cup that brings hope in the midst of uncertainties.
The Tembusu flower motif is hand-painted by our makers in Japan.
Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
