With a history of over 400 years, “Aizu-nuri” (lacquerware from the Aizu region in Tohoku) is considered as one of the three major types of traditional lacquerware crafts in Japan. IZ JAPAN, a company set up with an aim to promote Aizu-nuri, has been developing interior goods that fits the modern home for over 20 years. Every process in shaping the Maki-e Sakura Sake Cup is a tedious one. Beautifully hand-painted cherry blossom pattern (Maki-e) sits on a rich coat of red over the wooden cup, made from local timber.
