Marumi Yasuda Kawara Kogyo Corporation is a traditional tile producer which manufactures the famed "Yasuda Kawara Tile" for over 190 years, since the Tenpo era (1830 - 1844) of the Edo period.
Made by the reductional firing which fires tiles at a high temperature of 1200 degrees centigrade or higher, the ceramic is a hard and heavy-duty tile with low water absorption, superb insulation and cold resistance. The TSUKI (Moon) tableware collection is an extension of the company's main business. With a unique wrinkled surface texture which resembles the surface of a moon. Crafted in Agano, Niigata prefecture and fired in traditional tunnel kilns, the company attempts to establish a system to keep the tradition and culture of “Yasuda Kawara” alive.
