Soejima Glassware Co. has been manufacturing blowing glass for over 110 years. There were tough times that they thought to switch to automation. However, they didn’t stop manufacturing Hizen- Vidro, which is the important intangible cultural property of Saga City, to protect its tradition. They love to make blowing glass and know that handmade glassware has a natural shape and beauty, that makes all the customers happy. Their company roots come from the lord of Saga that established organizations for the research of Western technologies at the end of the Edo period. There was a glass factory and founder of their company, Genichiro Soejima, who worked from childhood. The factory has manufactured beakers and flasks for experimentation and also daily necessities such as glass bottles. After the Meiji Restoration, the factory started making lamp and tableware. Then, Genichiro Soejima was independent, and established Soejima Glassware Co., Ltd. in 1903.
