The Mabe Pearl

The Mabé Pearl, known as half-sphere pearls that are cultivated on the inside of a Mollusc (Mollusck) shell over the course of 2 to 3 years. They are also known as the blister-pearls due to its' half-shaped appearance as they grow and attach themselves on the inner shell instead of the center of the oyster. Mabé Pearls exhibit intense iridescent colours and glow under ultraviolet light, mostly grown in the coast of Japan, Indonesia and Australia.

In order to preserve the Mabé Pearl, various treatments are done such as coating either on the inside of the nacre or a clear resin coating to prevent any potential scratches and oxidation while preserving its' original vibrant colours and luster.
