Musashino Uniform Co., Ltd. is based in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. Producing “pop tabi”, the typical tabi shoes come in understated white or black. Each pair of pop tabi is carefully handmade by artisans.
As there are many stages in the production process, it takes a long time to make a pair of tabi. By stitching small pieces together, it produces a durable and smooth tabi shoe that is suitable for daily wear. Fastened with metal clasps called “kohaze.”, each pop tabi is also engraved with a “Japan” stamp to mark its authenticity.
About 80% of Tabi in Japan used to be manufactured in Gyoda City as one of the main materials, cotton are produced in Gyoda City as well. In the past, there were almost 300 tabi makers based in this city but with to the changing times, the culture of wearing tabi shoes are slowly demolishing and the number of tabi makers have to 11 of them.
