Patterns of Our Time - Chess (Xiang qi) Table Porcelain Plate (15cm)
Chess (Xiang qi) Table Porcelain Plate
To encourage social interaction, Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats were built with interaction corners at void decks that came with tables, hopscotch designs and benches. Older folks are often found playing endless games of xiang qi, also known as Chinese chess, in a corner with other neighbours as regular spectators, with the glossy blue-and-white tiles of these tables already designed with an in-built chess board.

Quality Of Product:
Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
