NEW NANYANG is Supermama's latest collection, exploring and contributing to the evolving language of art objects. The project, which showcases the unique talent of 10 Singaporean artists and the craftsmanship of 10 Japanese manufacturing facilities, draws inspiration from the concept of a New Asian Language.
This concept aims to convey the cultural and artistic diversity of Asia in contemporary art, design, and manufacturing, seeking to explore the intersections between art and manufacturing while highlighting the importance of craftsmanship and materiality in the realm of contemporary art.
Each of the 10 selected artists is paired with a Japanese manufacturing facility based on their artistic vision and style. Throughout the project, the artists and manufacturers collaborate to produce 10 distinct bodies of work that encapsulate the spirit of the New Asian Language.
