We scoured the mountains and the seas.... with a stroke of magic, we found the original maker of the Magic Cup in Kyushu, Japan!
The original drinking cup was used by our then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his national addresses to Singaporeans on several occasions during the Covid-19 pandemic, where he would take a sip from the cup before giving the next address in a different language.
In the midst of uncertain times, a little blue cup arose to give the nation a gentle dose of humour. Since then, this little blue cup has gained fame among Singaporeans as the "Magic, Language-changing Cup".
The unassuming hand-painted porcelain cup that captured the imagination of a nation and became a playful symbol of Singapore's famously diverse and harmoniously multilingual population.
