Jalan Besar is a random mix of neighbourly friendliness and midnight seediness. Mixed in between hardware stores and harmless grocers are Karaoke pubs and nightclubs featuring a cacophony of characters that makes this area the perfect setting for a gangster film.
A tribute to this raw unpretentious neighbourhood, the agency's artwork on the porcelain sauce dish plates made in Arita Japan, features two residents strays wearing welding goggles, hugging a bottle of whisky and a beer can with scars and injuries gained from their tumbles in the street.
Porcelain is a medium where colour variation is a natural occurring feature of reactive, speckled, matte and cobalt-blue glazed finishing. Irregularities in glaze and texture should be celebrated as a mark of the artist's hand. Therefore, each piece is unique and has a handcrafted element to it.
