Korean Rug (Hwamunseok) - Green

The hwamunseok (flower-patterned mat) is made by harvesting green wanggol (sedge) during the summer and repeatedly wetting and sun-drying it until a milky white hue is achieved. It is then finely split, twisted and woven  by hand. Historically, the mat offers year-round comfort, keeping users cool in the summer and providing warmth in the winter. Together with WEKINO, Studio Word piece incorporates white, red and green strips of varying densities to produce a contemporary pattern, reimagining the craft for modern living spaces.
