River Cruisin’ reimagines the regal Merlion as a more playful and familiar creature, their mannerisms drawing on that of the otters which inhabit Singapore’s waters, as well as the artist’s cat. The Merlions are set against the backdrop of the historic Singapore River, which is often lined with bumboats for river tours.

YY Liak is a Singaporean illustrator currently based in the USA. Her work frequently deals with history, memory and myth, and she likes working with bold, punchy colours and graphic shapes.
