Ottchil on the Chair

The project seeks to reposition traditional craft techniques within the framework of contemporary living. It explores how heritage methods can be thoughtfully integrated into industrial production. The chair features a knock-down structure composed of a seat, backrest and side frames, which allow for efficient flat-pack shipping. Its finish employs ott-chil, a traditional Korean lacquer technique that uses natural resin extracted from the bark of the lacquer tree. Each component was individually lacquered before assembly, emphasising both craftsmanship and practicality.
